Literally, we use global positioning systems and maps and metadata every day to tell us where we are! Every city, town and country road is indexed on a grid to provide us an address! Even more, there is latitude and longitude to pinpoint ANY spot on earth!
Figuratively, or symbolically, we are somewhere on the journey of a lifespan. We start out as infants and, if fortunate, end up as senior adults! There are accompanying emotions, experiences, and events all along the way. Where are YOU?
So it's interesting that so many people really have no clue as to "where they are" in life.
Even more interesting... this is the first question asked in the Bible! "So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, 'Where are you?'" (Genesis 3:9)
It's not like the locater system just quit. God asked this question because the people He loved had disobeyed him and "went away" from the priority-relationship they had. In that sense, they were "lost." And the Lord began this incredible journey and story of redemption to "find" us in Jesus Christ!
That is the Good News we preach about every Sunday. And once we are "found in Him... having the righteousness from God based on faith" (Philippians 3:9) our life is filled with the joy of relationships and togetherness!
So while we can use our phones to prove the adage "everyone is somewhere," the real question is "Where are you... in relation to the Lord and His people?"
