"You're going to make mistakes..."
Not the cheeriest prediction of my performance, but I took my supervisor's words to heart. We were in his office for an "encouragement session" as I dealt with a challenging situation that was fraught with multiple, confusing processes and forms to complete. The daunting red tape had me reconsidering if it was worth it to follow-through on solving the problem or just "settling" and living with it.
"You're going to make mistakes," he repeated. "But don't let that stop you from doing the right thing. Do your part, trust the process, and keep going."
I made mistakes. When I didn't know what to do, I followed the process. It took time and perseverance, but it got better. And I never forgot the advice.
